Today's free Learning Adventure includes learning opportunities for preschool children as well as reading children. It allows parents who homeschool a variety of ages to bring them “under the same tent” (that's the one we pitch and dwell beneath) for the study of an old, timeless fairy tale.
Older students will explore sequencing words while younger students will work on sequence by creating a story map. A dramatic reading and flannel board performance is also included.

We started by reading the story- then we discussed it a bit and the kids informed me that wolves are scary. Unfortunately, the scariness of forest animals is a theme in fairy tales, and I did the best I could to explain that wolves aren't scary unless you make them mad or hold raw meat in your hand. Everyone seemed satisfied with this explanation, so I let it go at that.
Next we worked on sequencing. Micah colored and cut and pasted to create a story map showing the order of events while Max worked on the sequencing words worksheet. Milla nursed her dolls. I fought the wild urge to join her in her fantastic pretend game.
Finally Micah cut out the characters for the flannel board while Max read over the script. I hope we get time to perform it with Patrick tonight. Life seems to be moving so quickly these days, and I treasure the time we had together over the holidays. I'm in Patrick-withdrawal and doing the best I can to build and create in the absence of my best friend.
